INDIANAPOLIS – As the NFL’s legal tampering period looms, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is poised to become the most coveted player on the open market, with projections suggesting he could command a deal worth up to $30 million annually.
The 25-year-old receiver, coming off a career-best 2025 season with 1,003 receiving yards and six touchdowns, is set to hit free agency when the new league year begins on March 11. The Colts, who used their transition tag on quarterback Daniel Jones, did not franchise tag Pierce, making him available to the highest bidder.
According to multiple reports from CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated, Pierce’s market is “expected to be robust,” with contract projections ranging from $27 million to $30 million per year. This would place him among the NFL’s highest-paid receivers.
“I’ve kind of earned the right to explore free agency,” Pierce told NFL.com earlier this week, signaling his intent to test the market despite the Colts’ desire to re-sign him.
Several teams have emerged as potential suitors for the 6’3″, 211-pound deep threat. The New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Chargers are frequently mentioned as landing spots that could meet Pierce’s financial demands and offer a featured role. Analysts note that Pierce, who led the NFL in yards per reception (21.3) in 2025, would immediately upgrade any team’s vertical passing attack.
For the Colts, losing Pierce would create a massive void in their receiving corps.
